Play in schools continues to gain attention in the mainstream media. Two weekends ago, you may have seen the article in the New York Times Magazine (9/25/09), "Can the Right Kinds of Play Teach Self-Control?" about a play-based curriculum in a preschool in New Jersey, and theories and research on play and children's development.
Although we don't share the same language about play or employ all of the same teaching techniques, progressive educators have been pioneers in developing these practices and recognizing benefits of facilitated play in our schools for almost a century. Please take a look at the article here. If you'd like to know more about play at C&C, download last year's Currents on this topic here.
