Application Process: Groups 5 to 13

The birthday cut-off date for children applying to the 5s-13s is October 1.

5s and 6s Admissions (Kindergarten and First Grade)

Families are welcome to submit their completed application form between Tuesday, September 6, and Friday, November 25, 2016.

Families can choose to apply online, or download an application form and mail it to us. Online applicants may submit payment by credit card; mail-in applicants must pay by check. The fee is waived for Early Steps applications and those applying for financial aid. Family and child photos are strongly encouraged; please be sure to locate the photo download option when submitting an online application. After you press "Submit," the photo download option will appear.

Once we receive your application, the Admissions Office will contact you to schedule a morning C&C Info Session. This visit will give you a thorough look at our school, including a presentation about our program, a tour of our campus, and a mingling session with current parents. We will also schedule a 30-minute parent interview. It generally takes us no more than three weeks to contact you after receiving your completed application. Please know that Info Sessions tend to fill quickly; if we receive your application after all admissions events are booked, we will be happy to consider your application, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to schedule a tour for you.

If desired, in addition to the daytime tour, parents applying for the 5s and 6s are welcome to attend our annual Open House on Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. At the Open House, parents will receive a tour from our current 13s (eighth-graders) as well as have the opportunity to speak with teachers and current parents. There is no need to RSVP for the Open House, nor do you need to submit an application in order to attend.

School reports. If your child attends an independent school, we ask that you request the school to submit a completed ISAAGNY form (required). You may also provide a current school report (optional). Applicants coming from public schools are required to submit the most recent school report. All school reports should be submitted no later than January 13, 2017.

In the interest of saving paper, we strongly encourage your child's school to email the ISAAGNY form and/or school report to erikag@cityandcountry.org.

The ERB is not required with an application for 5s and 6s, and we do not take the results into consideration even when applicants provide them. City and Country has never required the ERB for children of this age. Your child's school report and his or her school visit will usually provide sufficient information for an admissions decision.

Your child's visit is required as part of the admissions process. In December, you will receive an email inviting your child to a playgroup. The playgroups will take place in January 2017.

Admissions Checklist

You may use this Admissions Checklist to keep track of the admissions process if you are applying to Groups 5 or 6 (kindergarten or first grade). We hope to make the process manageable for you, and as stress-free as possible.

7s – 13s Admissions (2nd – 8th Grade)

Families are welcome to submit their completed application form between Tuesday, September 6, and Friday, November 25, 2016. We will also see applicants on a rolling basis throughout the year as space becomes available.

Families can choose to apply online, or download an application form and mail it to us. It generally takes us no more than three weeks to contact you after receiving your completed application.

As part of the admissions process, we invite your child to visit the School, and we invite you for an Information Session and a parent interview. The Info Session will give you a thorough look at our school, including a presentation about our program, a tour of our campus, and a mingling session with current parents. Once we receive your application, we will contact you to make the arrangements. Applicants for the 7s will be invited to spend half of a day with us; applicants for the 8s and older will be invited to spend a full day. This visit will give us a chance to get to know your child, as well as give your child a feel for what it would be like to attend C&C. Each applicant is also asked to do some academic screening work with us on that day.

If desired, in addition to the daytime tour, parents applying for the 7s – 13s are welcome to attend our annual Open House on Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. At the Open House, parents will receive a tour from one of our current 13s (eighth-graders) as well as have the opportunity to speak with teachers and current parents.

All school reports should be submitted no later than January 13, 2017

In the interest of saving paper, we strongly encourage your child's school to email the ISAAGNY form and/or school report to erikag@cityandcountry.org.

ERB testing is required for all applicants for the 7s and older. The ERB administers testing for all ISAAGNY schools (Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York). Scheduling early is advisable (212-672-9800 or erblearn.org).

Admissions Checklist

You may use this Admissions Checklist to keep track of the admissions process if you are applying to Groups 7 or older (second grade and up). We hope to make the process manageable for you, and as stress-free as possible.

For All Age Groups

A special note about our application form: Our application has several open-ended questions that will help us to get to know you and your child. Please know that we expect only a couple of sentences as answers to these questions. Our goal is to make the best match that we can between a family and the School. Of course, we also keep in mind our goal of creating a diverse and balanced population.

Immunization Requirements

In the interest of public health and safety, and in conjunction with the New York State Department of Education, City and Country School requires all children to be vaccinated prior to admission. You may request a religious exemption to be reviewed (and possibly denied) by the Principal.
