Hurricane Sandy and the resulting power outages caused C&C to close its doors for a week. Our community put that time to good use by organizing a tremendous response that supplied labor, home goods, toys, food and even funds to residents in the hard hit areas of Broad Channel and Rockaway, Queens.
With the PA and Community Outreach Committee at the helm, C&C prepared some 1,300 hot meals, delivering them over a course of a month with needed necessities including flashlights, socks and toothpaste, and an impressive $13,200 in funds. “The response from the C&C community was immediate and extremely generous and helped this community start the long process of rebuilding,” said Dorothy Lamonaca, Director of Finance and Operations.
MAY UPDATE: With the help of a local (our own Kenny!) to navigate the streets, the co-heads of Community Outreach, Camila Pastor and Vicky Rich, and Kate Turley went door to door to distribute more than $8,000 in gift cards to extremely grateful families in Broad Channel on Saturday, May 11, 2013.</p
