Building the Climber

Flip through Building the Climber to learn about our climber, which was featured in a recent article in our magazine, Works in Progress.

The climber was designed by teachers in 2000, after Lower School teachers decided that a playground apparatus was necessary for the outdoor area. It was based on a climbing structure found in photos in the C&C Archives, and put together by C&C's crew of carpenters and facilities people using wood, metal, a cement foundation, and paint. Similar to our outdoor blocks, the design of the climber is simple, but challenges children to be mindful of their surroundings as they build independence. Building the Climber is a part of the C&C Library collection.

Read much more about C&C's climber in "A Slide with No Sides," written by Elise Bauer for the inaugural edition of Works in Progress.
