In 1914, City and Country School founder Caroline Pratt unbolted desks from rows and reimagined education. Her radical idea—that children learn best through hands-on engagement with meaningful content—sparked a progressive movement that still guides us today. A century later, research in neuroscience and education affirms what she knew all along: practical, creative, and collaborative learning leads to the deepest understanding.

Kicked off in C&C’s lovely library, this required event will give attendees an important overview of C&C’s historically significant program, plus a thorough look at our campus and classrooms in action. You’ll have the chance to interact with students, current parents, and an administrator or two. All tours are in person from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Join us for our annual behind-the-scenes look at NYC’s leader in progressive education since 1914.
You’ll begin with a brief welcome and classroom visit followed by young alums guiding you as you engage in a number of hands-on activities such Math+Service Learning to Greco-Roman Art to Electricial Engineering for Seven-Year-Olds. You’ll end at a reception with current parents.
If your child is applying for sixth grade or older, they’re welcome to tag along as you experience what distinguishes our school.

This fun, casual event offers prospective parents the opportunity to experience the significance of C&C’s blocks, invented by our founder and now used worldwide. You’ll enjoy sushi and be guided through hands-on exercises that build skills in math, engineering, collaboration, creativity, and more. Put yourself in the shoes of a C&C student and join us!
Due to limited availability, is open to parents of prospective children ages 2-second grade who have started their C&C application.
