Before- and After-School at C&C


At City and Country, learning extends beyond the classroom through C&C+, our before- and after-school program. Students explore interests like martial arts, animation, science, yoga, and chess in a flexible, choice-driven setting. Options grow with the children, including interscholastic sports, a community service club, private music lessons, and debate team.  

  • We understand that there may be a gap between dismissal for lower school children and their older siblings. If you have an older child, please pick up your lower school child at dismissal time and wait for your older child. 
  • Financial assistance is available for all offerings except private music lessons.
  • Options designated with an asterisk (*) are free of charge.

Before- and After-School Drop-In Programs

Parents may need flexibility with drop off and pick up times; children like more time on campus. C&C's drop-in programs are available as needed, Monday - Friday.

Lower School (IIs-VIIs)
Before School

IVs-VIIs have the option to gather in the Library to enjoy books, games, and arts and crafts starting at 8:00 a.m. At 8:40 a.m., they will be brought to their Group classrooms by the early morning drop-off teacher.  When you arrive at school in the morning, please bring your child to the Library on the first floor of the 13th Street Building. 2024-25 cost was $20/session; 2025-26 cost TBA. 

After School

NEW for 2025-26! Extended afternoon for IIs and IIIs runs each day until 5:00 p.m. and offers a warm and nurturing after-school time with yard, art, and other activities. This program is only available for children enrolled in our full-day program for IIs and IIIs. Children may attend on a day-by-day basis,  Cost TBA.

Extended afternoon for IVs-VIIs runs each day until 5:45 p.m. and offers a warm and nurturing after-school time with yard play and indoor activities such as art, playing games, and sharing stories. As with Early Morning Drop Off, extended afternoon is something your child may attend on a day-by-day basis. 2024-25 cost was $40/session; 2025-26 cost TBA. 

These programs begin the first full day of class and are available Monday-Friday.

Middle and Upper School (VIIIs-XIIIs)
Before School*

To start their day early, VIIIs-Xs can join a program at any point from 8:00 until 8:30 a.m. Morning programs begin in the Yard and Library. Students have the option to attend math practice and math extension. Upon arrival, children sign in at the Front Desk and go directly to the appropriate location. This offering runs M-F, is free of charge, and begins the first day of class.

After School

Extended afternoon for VIIIs+ runs each day until 5:45 p.m. for our older students as well, directly following Flex and Add-In Classes. Extended is something your child may attend on a day-by-day basis.  Available M-F, the cost in  2024-25 was $40/day. The 2025-26 is TBA. This program begins the first day of class.

Flex* is a long-standing tradition for VIIIs-XIIIs, to complete, continue, or get assistance with their school work and projects. They can work on their homework, receive learning support, and play a game in yard. If your child stays for Flex then they must remain for the entire period until the 4:00 p.m. dismissal. The program is available each weekday except Wednesday and is free for all who participate. It starts the first full week of school.

 


After-School Program Options (Fall 2025)

The following programs cater to individual interests and require committed attendance. Schedule and pricing varies by offering.  

For Vs and upprivate music lessons are available  for piano, violin, cello, viola, guitar, bass, ukulele, and voice. Reach out to James, our Music Department Coordinator, for details. Please note, FA is not available for private music instruction.

MONDAY

American Sign Language for Vs–VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

This class introduces American Sign Language and Deaf culture in a warm, inclusive environment led by native Deaf instructors. Students learn ASL through conversation and play, gaining a deeper appreciation for Deaf Gain and communication beyond sound. This offering is taught by the Sign Language Center — the nation’s only Deaf-owned ASL school — and they're excited to sign with you!

Capoeira for Vs–VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Capoeira is a martial art disguised as dance, developed by African slaves in Brazil as a form of resistance and expression. Today, it blends movement, rhythm, and play in a joyful, music-filled circle. Students will learn capoeira’s basic movements, play partner sequences (non-contact), and explore its rich cultural history. Guided by the principles of Focus, Discipline, and Respect (FDR), this class fosters fitness, leadership, and community. This popular offering is presented by AfroBrazil Arts. Threads and Needles for VIs and VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

In this hands-on class, students will learn foundational fiber arts skills, including simple sewing, to design and create their own pieces—starting with a pillow or a bag. We'll also explore weaving and design techniques. It’s a fun, focused space where children can express their creativity while strengthening fine motor and artistic skills.

Capoeira for VIIIs-XIIIs
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Debate Tournament Prep* for Xs-XIIIs
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Debate Tournament Prep, facilitated by Nick Smart P'26, focuses on preparing the C&C Debate Team for city-wide tournaments. Students will train together and compete in tournaments with other New York City middle schools through the New York Debate League

Soccer Team* for XIs-XIIIs
3:15-5:00 p.m.

It's an exciting time to play the world's most beauiful and popular game as North America prepares to host the World Cup in 2026. From first touch to final whistle, this team emphasizes fundamentals, fitness, and team spirit. It’s all about playing with heart, supporting your teammates, and loving the game.The team will enjoy friendly interscholastic competition against other area independent schools. Players must commit to Monday and Friday practices and games.

Community Roots (Service Club)* for VIIIs-XIIIs
4:00-5:00 p.m.

Community Roots is a student-led service learning group that takes action on real issues facing our school and neighborhood. Each Monday, students come together to identify community needs and lead projects that make a difference—from urban gardening and recycling to supporting local housing, food, and health initiatives. It’s hands-on, heart-first learning that grows civic responsibility and strengthens our ties to the world around us.

TUESDAY

Junior Coders for Vs–VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Young coders explore transportation through fun, hands-on engineering challenges—building airplanes, cars, and more—while learning foundational coding with age-appropriate tools. Whether guiding a virtual robot or constructing a vehicle, students develop problem-solving, logic, and computational thinking skills in an environment that encourages experimentation and creativity. This program is led by iCamp.

Kids Can Cook for Vs–VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Budding chefs, working alongside Will Cruz, whip up healthy, allergen-free snacks like homemade pizza, bagels, and yogurt parfaits while learning about ingredients, kitchen tools, and measurement. They’ll explore how food connects to culture and community—and they’ll enjoy everything they make. This class builds independence, confidence, and a love of cooking that can extend beyond the classroom.

3:00-4:00 p.m.

Design, build, and bring big ideas to life! In this hands-on class, students work with Katie to sketch, cut, assemble, and refine their own one-of-a-kind creations—from vehicles and cutouts to imaginative, unexpected inventions. This class fosters creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration in our workshop setting.

Debate for Xs-XIIIs
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Students learn how to craft arguments, analyze different perspectives, and speak with clarity and confidence. Through engaging topics and friendly competition, this class builds skills in public speaking, persuasive writing, and respectful discourse—equipping students to express themselves and think critically about the world around them. This program is led by Nick Smart P'26. president of the ESU New York Debate League.

Graphic Arts for VIIIs-XIIIs
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Students dive into the world of digital design through hands-on projects and creative challenges. They’ll learn layout, typography, and color theory, then bring their ideas to life using Adobe Photoshop. This course supports artistic growth, visual communication, and confidence in a medium that’s increasingly central to how we share ideas. This course is led by professional graphic designer Kevin Gillespie P'26,  '33.

Volleyball Team* for XIs-XIIIs
3:15-5:00 p.m.

Ready to bump, set, and spike? Join the C&C Volleyball Team and be part of something bigger than yourself! Open to players of all levels, this co-ed team focuses on teamwork, fundamentals, and having fun. Practices and games offer a great mix of skill-building, strategy, and school spirit. The team will enjoy friendly interscholastic competition against other area independent schools. Players must commit to Tuesday and Thursday practices and games.

    
WEDNESDAY

Fun Fusion for IVs-VIs 
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Fun Fusion with Stephanie Moore is a playful mashup of cooking, movement, music, art, and crafts—all based on student interests. This flexible, child-centered class meets learners right where they are at the end of the day. Each week offers something new, with a focus on joy, creativity, and time to unwind and explore.

3:00-4:00 p.m.

Design, build, and bring big ideas to life! In this hands-on class, students work with Katie to sketch, cut, assemble, and refine their own one-of-a-kind creations—from vehicles and cutouts to imaginative, unexpected inventions. This class fosters creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration in our workshop setting.

Code Cadets for Xs-XIIIs
3:15-4:30 p.m.

Ready to level up your coding? Students tackle more advanced challenges—building games, animations, and simulations while collaborating on group projects. With enhanced tools and guidance from iCamp program leaders, they’ll develop real-world programming skills and the confidence to experiment, iterate, and turn their coding curiosity into creative expression.

Hoopsters for VIIs and VIIIs
3:15-4:15 p.m.

Learn basketball by playing basketball! Todd’s approach uses small-sided games to build essential skills like ball-handling, shooting, and decision-making. Students play, experiment, and apply what they’ve learned in larger scrimmages. All genders and skill levels welcome in the session for VIIs and VIIIs that is fun, active, and inclusive environment. The 4:15-5:15 session is for girls and non-binary students who want to build confidence and have fun in a supportive athletic space.

Hoopsters for Girls/NB for VIIIs-Xs
4:15-5:15 p.m.

THURSDAY

Chess I (Beginner) for Vs–VIIs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

In Chess I, students learn and practice the fundamentals of chess in a fun and engaging environment. Each child is placed in a group that matches their skill level, and those continuing from earlier sessions remain in their current sections. Chess I is taught by Rita Kelly; students can also participate in optional city-wide tournaments with Coach Fred.

Chess II (Intermediate) for Vs–Xs
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Chess II and III are taught by Fred Wilson (who has taught chess at C&C for 20+ years!). Students build on their foundational chess skills through intermediate and advanced strategies, tactics, and game play. With Fred’s guidance, players sharpen their thinking and compete with peers. Those who are interested can represent C&C in city-wide tournaments—offering real-world opportunities to grow and compete.

Spanish for Vs-VIIs 
3:00-4:00 p.m.

In this immersive Spanish playgroup, children learn through songs, stories, puppets, and art. The class is led by Brianny Crisostomo and will build basic vocabulary and expressions through full-body engagement and joyful repetition. Students connect words with actions, rhythms, and routines—laying a playful, memorable foundation for language learning and cultural awareness.

Yoga for Vs-VIIs 
3:00-4:00 p.m.

Lhakpa Gurung will lead children in yoga poses, breathing, games, and storytelling to explore the balance between movement and stillness. This class builds strength, flexibility, focus, and mindfulness while fostering positive thinking, self-awareness, and a strong sense of calm. It's an energizing and grounding way to round out the school day.

3:15-5:00 p.m.

Join the fast-paced fun of 3-on-3 basketball! In this weekly clinic, students compete in small team tournaments while learning game fundamentals and building court awareness. Open to all genders and skill levels, this program emphasizes play, strategy, and friendly competition.
